The Big Strong Arms
The Big Strong Arms’ current lineup have been playing together since 2012, and recording together at Pie Man Sound since 2014. Starting from scratch in the music world, the band has cobbled together their own unique identity – informed by a globe-spanning list of artists and acts including Nat King Cole, Frank Zappa, Yoko Kanno, Hiatus Kaiyote, Elbow, Lack of Afro, Queens of the Stone Age, Jimi Hendrix (especially the B-Sides!), Cannonball Adderley, Charlie Parker, The Who, and Paul McCartney. It is thanks to this diverse range of idols and influences that the Arms can imbue their music with such a wide range of emotions.
From the screaming, thrashing waves of “Undertow” to the loose, delicate tones of “Major State of Mind,” the flexibility of the Big Strong Arms knows no bounds.
An underground sensation up ‘til now, the Big Strong Arms’ first studio album is changing the face of the Raleigh music scene. Produced by punk rock pioneer and CBGB’s mainstay Mitchell Dancik and featuring guest spots from local musicians Mark Powell, Karin Bennett, and Taylor Babson, “A Band You Can Trust” is a passion project made real.
